Transfer News: Lautaro Martinez, Romelu Lukaku

Chelsea is interested in Lautaro Martinez, while Inter Milan has made the sale of Romelu Lukaku a priority.
Inter Milan and Chelsea could do business again during the summer transfer season, with Romelu Lukaku and Lautaro Martinez perhaps moving teams.

Lautaro Martinez of Inter Milan is a target for Chelsea ahead of the summer transfer season.

The 24-year-old has been mentioned as a possible addition to the Blues’ attack as manager Thomas Tuchel looks to add more forward firepower and improve last season’s third-place result and two domestic cup final appearances. Martinez, along with highly sought-after RB Leipzig hotshot Christopher Nkunku, is reportedly being considered after the club’s takeover was finalized, according to The Athletic.

A switch to Stamford Bridge would reunite him with former Inter striker Romelu Lukaku. However, according to rumors in Italy, the Nerazzurri have made the Chelsea man – who recently separated from his agency – a priority transfer target, implying that the pair could switch employers.

Inter’s comeback, according to Calciomercato, is a “major requirement” for the club, who lost out on regaining the Serie A title by only two points this season, a situation made worse by the fact that arch rivals AC Milan won the Scudetto instead, their first in more than a decade.

Inter wants to bring the Belgium international back to Milan “as soon as possible,” according to the report, and has plans to meet with his representatives this week to finalize a deal. Lukaku’s possible return impacts the Nerazzurri’s other transfer ambitions, with reports claiming that their attempts to recruit Paulo Dybala, who is about to be released by Juventus, have been halted.

Inter are anticipated to seek another astronomical fee from the Blues, given their precarious financial situation led them to sell Lukaku and fellow star Achraf Hakimi last summer. After scoring 24 goals this season, Martinez is worth upwards of £60 million to the Nerazzurri, while Nkunku might be snatched away from Leipzig for a lower fee.

Chelsea has recently done business with both clubs, having signed Timo Werner from Leipzig in 2020 and paying £97.5 million for Lukaku a year later. Martinez could now follow in his footsteps from Milan to west London, despite signing a new long-term contract with Inter in October, committing him to the San Siro for another four years.

Martinez’s representative has previously hinted at his client’s plans, dismissing rumors of a leave. “Today, all we want is to win Inter, and then God will tell us what to do.” “He’s at ease; he’s good,” Alejandro Camano said, according to Mundo Deportivo. “However, we don’t get involved in what the clubs want to accomplish; we only care about what Lautaro wants to do: win the league with Inter and have a wonderful World Cup.”

“That’s the only thing Lauti has in mind,” Camano remarked, “God will reveal the rest.” “Lauti will bring us a lot of delight in the future years; he is going to be an entertainment wherever he goes.” He’ll be successful wherever he goes, and he’ll do well. Hopefully, he’ll be part of a strong squad and be able to compete in major tournaments such as the Champions League.”
